Roots on First Shelter

The Roots on First low barrier shelter plays an essential role in the community by offering a safe, welcoming space for individuals who may face barriers to accessing traditional services. As a 24-hour facility, it provides consistent support and safety whenever it is needed. Grounded in harm reduction, Roots on First meets people where they are at—prioritizing dignity, respect, and individual choice. By minimizing entry requirements, it ensures services are accessible without judgment or unnecessary restrictions. Clients have access to nutritious meals, a secure place to rest, and basic necessities, along with safe, inclusive, and accessible spaces, including areas designed for more vulnerable individuals. Beyond immediate needs, the shelter fosters connection and trust while helping clients access additional support, build stability, and move forward at their own pace.
